35 Weeks Pregnant *Updates*

I'm am finally no longer in pre-term anymore!  I have been told there is no need to worry about 4 contractions in an hour but instead 5 minutes apart.  This means I am ready to go anytime!  I know, I know I have a ways to go.  Baby V is measuring just over 1 week ahead of schedule.  Not that I really know what this means but sounds good to me.
Baby Viv has been hiccuping every day and I love it!

How far along:  35 Weeks 1 Day

Size of Baby:  A Coconut!

Movement: YES! Flipping all around!   She has been head down for a long time now and somehow kicks my hip

Weight Gain: I started at 138 and this week I am 164 (I am 5'6.5)
I am happy to receive lots of compliments so I must not look bad.  I don't even care if that is the standard pregnancy comment :)

Nausea and other:  Acid reflex is in full force!   Sadly I am throwing up now about once a day.  Stinks

Mood: Feeling good. Busy with work and have been walking 2-3 miles per day.  It feels great to get out there and move around.  The weather is starting to cool down and cooperate.   Especially in the morning when I go.

Best moment of the week:  Hiring my Doula!  I really like her and I have felt so comfortable ever since know I have someone that will be there for me.

Looking forward to:  Getting together with my girlfriends this week!

Sneak Peak at Vivian Blanche's Nursery

Vivian Blanche's Nursery!

First I will say YES we gave her a middle name.  Blanche is my husbands grandmothers name on his fathers side.  We just love the old names and this one is one that is not used often.
I can't help but think of the Golden Girls! LOL!  I just love telling people her name as the reactions are priceless.

So exited the crib is final together. I couldn't help myself but to take some pictures with my cell phone.  Little blurry sorry. I will take some pictures with my actual camera as the room comes along. I have some organizing to do but I feel like I am almost there.  Not a fan of the banner above the crib but I am having a hard time figuring out what to put there that will not potentially fall on her.  Possibly just change how it is hung? It is the banner from my baby shower so it is meaningfully cute :)   But this is what happens when the carpenter comes without me present.  Things end up a little off.

I ordered sheet music of Bing Crosby's "That's An Irish Lullaby"  So cute I just love it!
Randomly with my order (from Ebay) I got a note asking if I were related to my father in law from an old friend of his. They were able to reconnect because of it.  Of the hundreds to select from I chose his - what are the odds?  He lives a few states away now too!  I saved the note and placed it behind the sheet music.
Nice story for Vivian to have.

Preparing for First Time Labour

How do I know I am doing this right? I have never done it before.
What will work for one person may not work for the next.

My Goal:  To prepare my body for labour

Now I know you seasoned moms will read this and think "yea right keep dreaming" that birth doesn't always go as planned.  But just like IVF I am hoping for the best and preparing my body for that! And just like IVF when people speak to me about my desires it turns into unsolicited comments and advice. I understand I may end up having a c-section as many woman have had to have. I hope not to.

Just like IVF the thought of worste case will not prevent me from thinking and preparing for the best!

I am currently 34 weeks pregnant today!  A few weeks back I had a hospital visit after a little spotting over night.  I didn't realize how I was suppose to call the Dr right away and I had waited until morning to be told to go straight to the hospital.  Well, this visit was eye opening for me!  In the end the baby was just fine.  The Dr's just wanted to make sure that the spotting wasn't a sign of anything else.  It wasn't.

What I learned:
  • The hospital bed is uncomfortable
  • I was hooked up in two directions: IV fluid one way - heart monitors the other
  • I felt uncomfortable adjusting the bed even sitting up as the monitors would slide.  I wasn't sure what I was allowed to do.
  • I was hungry when I walked in at 9am told the nurses yet didn't eat until after 2pm!  I was absolutely starving.
  • The hospital got a new computer system the day before and this was taking everyones attention.  Just last week I went back for an ultrasound and still no one understands it yet.
  • My husband was no help - Love you honey! but he showed up hours later and was complaining about being in an uncomfortable cruiser all night.  He is a police officer on the morning shift 1am-9am.
  • I wasn't sure what was going on with my body.  My back hurt so much!  Later I was told that I was laboring in my back.  The nurses kinda spoke to me like I knew what it all meant. Nope!
  • Felt like I was waiting on people to tell me what was going on

  • To get more physically fit in this short time I have
  • Educate myself a bit more as to the process of birth and what to expect
  • Actually make a birth plan
  • Meet with a Douala - figure out if that is what I want - hopefully she can ease my anxieties

Having suffered since week 16 with a pelvic hernia along with some scary bleeding early on. I have not been able to be active most all of this pregnancy.  Wether on "pelvic rest" or just that the hernia killed, I have finally been able to start long walks these past couple weeks!  Boy is this great!  It is de-stressing and calming for me. My little getaway from my home where I lose myself in my music.  I have done a TON of research and walking is suppose to be a great way to prepare for labour.  It is said that it can help shorten how long a woman is actually in labour so I am walking away!

God bless my husband but after our little visit to the hospital I know now more than ever that he will not be a good birthing partner for me.  Although I am so exited to have him there and support in his own way, I am very exited to be meeting with a Douala this week. I have so many questions!  She will understand and support my birth plan, stay with me, feed me, keep me relaxed and calm, make me a bath and tell me that I got this.

With my hospital having that new computer system and not knowing just how many woman the nurses will also be attending to, I am so happy to be looking into my own personal helper aka: doula.

As so many of you woman have done, some of which found this page for the same reason, I have done tons of internet research.  "ways to prepare for labour" "Tips to a shorter birth" and so on...

These are the things I have looked into that now that I am 34 weeks along I am trying:

Raspberry Leaf Tea:  Soon to switch to "Earth Mama Angel Baby Organic Tea for Mamas to Be" yup a mouth full. Raspberry Leaf Tea is know to help labour along.  Not necessarily make it faster but to improve uterus conditions making it stronger and ready for delivery.  Also used for mistral period and birthing recovery.  Earth Mama Tea is Raspberry Leaf Tea with extra ingredients to support Iron consumption and more.

How much?  2-5 cups a day!

Evening Primrose Oil: To help shorten labor, start labor and prevent a late delivery.  Not to be used before 34 weeks pregnant.  Alway ask your Dr. before consuming this product.

How much?   2000mg a day

Eating Dates:  Dates have been long known to help pregnant woman Labor less as long and to go into delivery on their own without intervention.  Only small studies have been done on this.

How many?  4-6 dates a day

Birthing Ball:  The birthing ball helps the baby fall into place.  Many say it is the easiest way to get the baby to move around when needed to change his or her position.  It is also my most comfortable place to sit in the house.  I can practice labor positions with it.

How often do I use?  everyday!

33 Weeks Pregnant *update*

This week I have been walking up a storm!   2-3 miles a day.  Since the weather is hot and not cooperating I have been getting up an going first thing each morning!  I am concentrating a lot this week on ways to help my labour move along fastest when it comes time.  Raspberry Leaf Tea, eating Dates and long walks are a good start!  Post to come!   I am also thinking about packing that hospital bag.  Ever since my day stay in the hospital a couple weeks ago I realized it is better to be packed.
How far along:  33 weeks 5 days

Size of baby: Durian - I have added baby center Pic since ...who the heck knows what a Durian is?

Movement: YES! Flipping all around!   She has been head down for a long time now and somehow kicks my hip

Weight Gain: I started at 138 and this week I am 160.7 (I am 5'6.5)

Nausea and other: No, I think I am in the clear with the nausea.  Acid reflex is in full force!

Mood: Feeling emotional!  Started two days ago that I am weepy with highs and lows.

Best moment of the week:  The carpenter came and hung pictures and shelves in the babies room!

Looking forward to: Meeting a potential Doula this week

Exploring My Birth Options

After a long visit at my hospital last week, I have been doing a lot of thinking.  What kind of delivery do I really want to have. I was so uncomfortable, not with the staff or hospital, but sitting in this bed partially reclined for hours on end.  I NEVER sit like that and it did not feel natural to me.  AT ALL!  My back ached so bad.  I am unsure if it was my pre labor contractions or just this awkward position.  I was hooked up to monitors around my waist going to the left and had an IV in my right arm going to my right.
Is this the position I will be in when I give birth?
Will I be sitting like that for hours on end ..days? Hooked up to these things.  I'm not digging it and I want to know what my options are.

I'd Like to move around. I'd like to have the feeling of my legs.  This is bringing me to explore the thoughts of a drug free natural birth.  Now I've voiced my opinion of exploring this avenue to many people in my life to not so supportive feedback.

My Mom:  "Things are not like they use to be, take the drugs they offer them early now" (she had 3 natural births 2 last minute epidurals)
My sister: "If you are not 100% you will NOT go through with it"  (she had 4 natural births)
Other sister:  "I know you, you'll take the drugs" (had a c-section)
Girlfriends: "Are you crazy take the drugs" (both had a c-section)
My Dr: before switching "most woman who go in with an open mind end up taking the drugs"

A little nervous I asked my mid wife.  She was surprisingly encouraging saying things like "you can do it" and in that tone... you know like she meant it! She told me that some woman enjoy pushing.  That the pain of childbirth is different for everyone and each time.  She encouraged me to watch a documentary. The Business of Being Born   It was actually free on my Netflix subscription.

I am so happy to have seen it.  It is not hippy crunchy like I thought it may had been.  It is really just eye opening and educational.  I now have a lot to think about.

If you have seen this or have had a natural birth in a hospital please let me know.  I'd love to hear about it! I am not into having a home birth but am considering a natural drug free birth.  Not to be disappointed if things happen.

How far along:  32 Weeks 3 Days

Baby is the size of a: Pineapple

Babies Movement:  YES!  All the time!  She flips around first thing in the morning all day and night! Busy little girl

Symptoms:  Severe Heart Burn.  I have been using Apple Cider Vinegar 3 table spoons per glass 1 glass of water when it starts once a day.  It works most of the time, otherwise I use Zantac

Total Weight Gain:  I have not weighed myself in a while but I believe I am about 20 Pounds to date

Sleep: Every other night I get a good night sleep ...if I am lucky. I have been very uncomfortable, especially in my back.

Food Cravings:  Spicy!  and this is not helping my heartburn

Exercise:  Not this week.  I have come to accept that I will not workout for all of 2015.

Stretch Marks:  No

Mood:  Good!

THIS WEEK:  Busy busy! I will start off with the good.  It was my birthday yesterday!  :) I had a great day that started out with a closet company coming by to install systems in the babies room (and a few other closets) and ended my day at the beach with my girlfriends.  Organization makes me extremely happy right now so I was happy to wait for them to finish!
The night before was my maternity shoot.  My photographer www.kerrygoodwin.com is amazing! She was great enough to send me these sneak peeks.  Picture were taken in Ipswich MA 20 minutes from my home.

The not so good:  I ended up in the hospital a few days ago for 8 hours after a spotting incident.  It happened in the middle of the night.  I actually didn't worry myself and called my Dr's office in the morning.  They told me I should not had waited to call. I guess with all the bleeding I had early in pregnancy I thought a little spotting wasn't a big deal but I guess at 32 weeks it is.
I got to the hospital and got all hooked up to monitors to find out I was contracting.  To make a long story short they gave me 2 bags of fluid thinking I may had been dehydrated but my contractions got worse where I could feel them in my back along with cramps.  They ended up giving my tribulin shot and it worked.  I went home 3 hours later.  Cervix still closed.
